ÉAN consists of vocalist Ana Dubyk (Romania), guitarist Sian Brie (Romania), and Anthony Gutierrez (Venezuela) on percussions. Starting as a duo, Ana and Sian explored their inner musical worlds, searching for acommon musical language. They have been playing together since before the pandemicin different festivals (Tam Tam Festival – Brașov, LOVESTRUCK Festival – Bucharest), jazzvenues (Green Hours, Beat Bar, Zadar etc.), and series such as Chamber Jazz (Brașov) orWeekend Sessions (Bucharest). This year, Anthony joined them completing the sound of the band with his colorful rhithmical background.
Ana Dubyk – vocals Ana Dubyk started studying classical piano at the age of 6, continuing her studies in Timisoara, where at the age of 16, she began taking her first vocal lessons. She studied her bachelor at the jazz department of the National Music University of Bucharest, under the guidance of Mircea Tiberian and Nadia Trohin. She graduated the Master Program at Prins Claus Conservatoire from Groningen, with one semester in New York, where she studied with musicians such as JD Walter, Kurt Weiss, Tineke Postma or Michael Moore. During her semester in New York, she had the chance to continue her lessons with JD Walter, but also to study with musicians such as vocalists Cécile McLorin Salvant, Cyrille Aimée, pianists David Berkman, Michael Kanan and acting professor – Michael Ryan. She performed alongside musicians such as Mircea Tiberian, John Betsch, George Dumitriu, Toma Dimitriu, Andrea Caruso, Michael Acker etc.
Sian Brie – guitar After studying at the Bucharest Music Conservatory and being brought into jazz and free-jazz by the pianist Mircea Tiberian, Sian Brie moves to Berlin, where he has the opportunity to meet and work with musicians like Christian Lillinger, Horst Nonnenmacher, Manuel Miethe. He moves to London the following year where he meets Dawid Frydryk (trumpet) and they start a trio involving Guillaume Viltard on double bass. The two musicians deal with both negative and positive discrimination and, in the end, realize that they get to have a behavior in a perfect accordance with the label that has been given to them. This is the birth place for the attitude expressed by the phrase “to live up to your discrimination standards”. Sian Brie is the cofounder of the free improvisation group “UMAMI” featuring John Edwards, Mark Sanders and Dawid Frydryk, and a member of Bucharest based improv group “And the this!”. He has worked with musicians including Mircea Tiberian, Mihai Iordache, Nicholas Simion etc.
Anthony Gutierrez – percussion Anthony Ebenecer Gutierrez Venezuelan musician, born in 1990 , developing as a multiinstrumentalist from the early age of 5 years old, pursuing from then on his everlasting born talent and passion for music, especially for drums and percussion, having also studies of piano, guitar, singing, experience as educator and conducting ensambles of music and big band jazz. He was formed and working within the National System of Orchestras of Venezuela, as main training as drummer in the Simon Bolivar Big Band Jazz, during his careear had the oportunity to be in the internatinal scence in latin america, north america, europe and Asia, participing in diferents festivals, collaboration, recording and teaching. Some of the most relevant festivals and places in which he has participated, for example: Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola – New York JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER, City Dade College – Kendall Campus. Miami – Florida, Spectrum Theater – Washington D.C. West, BLUE NOTE Amsterdam, in Colombia at the AjazzGo and Jazz al park festivals, in Shanghai-China at the JZ academy Jazz club in which he won first prize in the 2020 international competition. The skill and abilities that have made his career as a session drummer is due to the level of interpretation and knowledge of multiple musical styles and side reading, facing many projects with fresh and modern ideas but without detaching from his training in the jazz as a strong foundation.
